Playground Buddies 2013
Fourteen children from Madrano and Cedar have just completed their training to become Playground Buddies during playtime and lunchtime.Their role is to support their peers in conflict resolution, problem solving and confidence building.
To become a Playground Buddy takes commitment. Members had to apply for the post and then undertake an interview. The successful candidates then completed six hours of training.The training involved six sessions based around people or interpersonal skills.The children created role plays and acted out various scenarios. And covered the following :-
¨ How to put people at ease so they will talk to you.
¨ The importance and limits of confidentiality.
¨ How to be an active, good listener.
¨ How to ask open questions to help people talk to you.
¨ How to reflect. This could mean reflecting feelings or reflecting back the main points of the discussion to ensure understanding.
¨ How to use the skills they have learned on the playground.
