Erasmus + 2014 -2016
Dunkirk has managed to secure more funding from the European Commission to continue the link with Rastaala School in Finland. The project is called Erasmus+.
The overarching question that Dunkirk Primary School, Nottingham, UK and Rastaala School, Espoo, Finland will explore over the next 24 months is:
‘How do we develop Pupil Voice in our schools enabling young people to become active and responsible citizens?’
Both schools have identified the need to develop Pupil Voice within their learning communities. In order for pupils to be effective and successful European and global citizens they need to be able to communicate with confidence.
This area has emerged from our past Comenius project where we linked with Finland, Italy and Norway. See Comenius -2012-2014 page.
The project, 'Pupil Voice' will look collectively at the Big Question 'What Kind of a World would we like to live in?
Each year one theme will be explored, taken from the Pupil Charter that was developed by the schools in the previous Comenius partnership which ended in August 2014.
The two themes selected from the Pupil Charter are
Greed and Power
Equality and Racism
International Linking at Dunkirk.
At Dunkirk we have established links with two schools around the world. One in Lahore, Pakistan and one in Madrid, Spain.Recently, Dunkirk has been granted a Comenius Award. This is funding from the British Council which enables the school to link with other schools in Europe. The aim is for everyone to become more aware of their European identity. We have successfully found partner schools to link with in Finland, Norway and Rome. The schools are Voksen Skole in Oslo, Norway; Rastaala School in Espoo, Finland and Il Circolo Didattico of Ciampino in Rome, Italy. We now have a dedicated website that is used by all four schools in the Comenius Family.
There is now a dedicated website being used by all for schools in the Comenius Project

Dunkirk wins the International School Award for the 4th consecutive time. This is as a result of amazing collaborations with a range of link schools across the world.Joint planning and teaching has been full of exciting and interesting projects which have linked closely to the schools curriculum. The award is valid for three years and Dunkirk will continue to provide an excellent benchmark for global citizenship and international linking.
_Linking with The Lahore Lyceum, Lahore, Pakistan
Dunkirk Primary has had a link with The Lahore Lyceum since 2002.
We have had a number of teacher exchange visits over the years. So far 8 members of staff at Dunkirk have visited Pakistan. These visits have enabled both schools to plan joint projects and ways of working which make our school curriculums meaningful and fun. We look at global issues together such as energy usage and shortages of supply around the world. We then work together to find ways of addressing these big problems.
To find out more about the work we do with The Lahore Lyceum, please see the exciting projects we have done in 2011, or see work from 2010 or 2009.
Linking with C.E.I.P Parque Eugenia de Montijo, Madrid, Spain
Dunkirk Primary School has been linked with Parque Eugenia de Montijo in Madrid, Spain since 2006. During this time, teachers from both schools have been fortunate enough to visit each other's school and countries. As we teach Spanish to all children in Dunkirk, we use this link to practice the language for a purpose and to share work that we are doing. The children also learn about the festivals and celebrations in Spain, this enhances their intercultural understanding and acceptance of other cultures. Our link with Spain is very popular and the children are fascinated when they are able to touch and read the work sent from children in Spain.
