Languages Day 2015
This year's Languages Day focused on our theme of 'Community' and we shared and celebrated the many different languages we speak in school and the local area.
In the morning, students from Bilborough College came into classes and taught Spanish, helping children to role play scenarios from different places in the local area, such as the cinema, the café and the pet shop. The children really enjoyed the students visiting and had lots of questions for them.
In the afternoon, parents and carers came in to share some of their home languages. We learnt lots of different languages, including Arabic, Urdu, German, Italian, Portuguese and French. We learnt different ways to say 'hello', 'how are you?' and 'thank you'. Some of the children in the classes were experts in these languages and loved sharing their home language with their friends.

The Subway Mural is Finished
After many months of planning and 5 days of hard work and committment, the subway is finally finished. Through out the week, members of the public who walked through the subway made positive comments on how much better this mural made the local environment look. One passer by even stopped and asked if he could help, even returning the next day to help again.
All the pupils are now finding their journey through the subway more interesting, colourful and enjoyable. They like to spot their own hand prints and are keen to show their families and friends what they have achieved. Everyone at Dunkirk feels very involved, happy and proud to have been part of such an exciting project. This accomplishment has made a big difference within the local community and is creating a great talking point.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this big achievement. We would particularly like to thank the Dunkirk School Council and Mandy Bishton;Friends of Dunkirk; the Highways Agency; Dunkirk and Lenton Forum; A one + who cleaned the graffitti off and local councillors who supported the project throughout.
A special thank you to Claire and Kate, our artists who coordinated and offered their creativity and expertise and time all week.
A massive thanks to all the parents, friends, volunteers and families who gave up their time to get involved and get painting!

Community Collaboration to Improve Local Subway.
The School Council has been working with Carol, the Police Community Officer and Fiona, from Dunkirk and Lenton Forum to find ways of improving the subway which is currently covered in graffiti. Together, they found out that the subway is owned by the Highways Agency but maintained by a private company. They have managed to get the Highways Agency to agree to clean off all the old paint and graffiti and Nottingham City Council to fund new art work.
The theme for the new art work will be The Jungle with lots of animals and birds. The School Council has asked the Friends of Dunkirk to help raise funds for paint and any other equipment needed. A letter has already gone out for donations of masonary paint and for volunteers to give time for the 3 days the work will take.
If you can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Mandy Bishton at the school.

School Organisation Proposals for Dunkirk Primary School
You may have seen in the local press or heard of a proposal by the City Council to re-open the former Lenton Primary School buildings, due to the increased demand for school places in the City.
It is proposed to increase the size of Dunkirk Primary School from 210 places to 420 places, using the former Lenton Primary School site on Lenton Boulevard, in addition to the existing Marlborough Street site, from September 2012.
It is proposed the Lenton Boulevard site will provide up to 30 Reception and 30 Year 1 places for the first year (2012/13) and grow each year as a new Reception class is admitted. The Marlborough site will
continue to have up to 30 children in each year group. It is not proposed to move any pupils from the Marlborough Street site to the Lenton Boulevard site.
Work is now underway at the Lenton Site to get the building ready for opening in September 2012
