Welcome to Hazel Class!
Welcome to Year one! Please see the information below regarding routines and key information for Hazel Class.
PE
In year one we love to be active! Therefore your child's PE kit needs to remain in school. We will send it home with your child once every half term to be washed.
We will mainly be inside during the winter, but on occasion we may go outside, so please bare this in mind with your PE kit choices. Your child will need:
· Trainers/Pumps
· Socks
· Shorts/Leggings/jogging bottoms
· Vests/T-Shirt/long sleeved top
For your child’s safety it is important that they have a PE kit in school. Please note that for safety reasons jewellery should not be worn.
Please make sure that all your child's clothes (including PE kit and shoes) are labelled with your child’s name.
Reading Books
Your child will be sent home with a reading book and diary every day with their books being changed at least once a week.
Your child may also choose to bring home with a book from our 'lending library', these books may be longer and trickier than their reading book, therefore the emphasis is on sharing. If an adult, older sister/brother or even friend could read this with your child that would be brilliant! Simply sharing stories with young children can immensely develop their reading, writing and imagination! There is no pressure for the child to independently read this book, it is simply to enjoy.
If you would like to borrow additional books, please feel free to ask.

Please read with your child as often as possible - 10 minutes each night is very beneficial. We also ask that you write in your child's reading diary as regularly as possible, let us know how they did when reading their book, have they enjoyed it? Do they have a favourite character or part of the book? Maybe they didn't enjoy the book, why might this be?
Your child should bring their reading book and reading diary to school everyday.

Homework
Homework is sent home on Friday in your child’s “What’s New” book. The aim is to make the homework fun and educational whilst involving you as parents or carers. This book is also a chance for you to write to us and make any comments you wish to pass on. We will also use it to pass on details on what we are covering in class such as current topics. On occasion there will be some extra things we will ask you to do but we will send details out when that occurs.
Feel free to use this book as a 'diary'. All the fun and exciting activities you do at home can go into this book. Use pictures and writing to document it and we love to share these experiences in school during our weekly 'show and tell' sessions.

Show and Tell
Show and Tell is a great way for children to gain confidence, improve their spoken language and develop their listening skills!
Every Thursday we will put aside some time in the day for Show and Tell, on this day your child can bring in a special item, photos of a special event or simply their favourite teddy bear! Although we do have a box all these items are placed in to keep safe, please do not send your child to school with any valuable items.

Discovery Garden
Hazel Class will be attending sessions on the Discovery Garden every Wednesday morning, although we do have a selection of water proof trousers, jackets and wellies the children can borrow, please ensure your child is suitably dressed for the weather! Warm coats, hats and gloves if its cold please!
If your child has his/her own wellies, please feel free to send them to school with these, the mud kitchen can get very muddy!!
