Welcome to Palm's Homepage
Welcome to Palm Class - September 2014
Welcome to Palm Class, and for those of you who are new, welcome to Dunkirk Primary School. We are looking forward to an exciting year and to help your child settle in, here are a few things you need to know.
My name is Miss Garrill and I am the Class Teacher. I will be working
alongside Ms Yvonne who is Palm Class Teaching Assistant.
What to expect in the classroom
This year will be an extremely exciting year for all of the children.
We will continue with a creative child-initiated curriculum drawing on the children’s interests when planning and delivering all elements of the
curriculum. We will also continue to regularly use the outdoors as part of our everyday learning, and the children will benefit from regular visits to the school field and Discovery Garden. Please look at the school website which will offer the chance to see examples of children’s work and photographs throughout the year.
Please make sure that your child comes to school every day with their
book bag and reading diary. This will ensure that your child changes their book at least once a week and has the opportunity within the week to read with a member of staff.
Homework will be set every Friday afternoon and this will be brought
home in a ‘What’s New’ book. Please support your child with their homework as this will be an extension of the learning that has occurred within class. The homework will also offer you the chance to see what your child has been learning about in school. It needs to be returned to school by Wednesday.
Your child needs to bring their PE kit at the start of term and leave it here all term. We will be doing PE on a Monday and Friday.
Depending on the weather, your child will need:
- Trainers/ pumps
-Shorts/ leggings/ jogging bottoms
- Vest/T-Shirt/long sleeved top
Please ensure that all clothes (including PE kit) are labelled with your child’s name.
In our classroom we have a water bottle tray. This allows the children
to have water when they need it but also promotes independence. Please make sure that water bottles are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
On a Friday morning we will be going to the discovery garden. Please make sure your children bring waterproof clothes that they can get mucky!
Please check our website (www.dunkirkprimary.com) regularly as we will update our class pages with more information about the fantastic work we will be doing over the term.
Please let us know if you would like to come into school and help, and
if there is anything that you would like to know, please come in and see us.
We are looking forward to working with you all,
Class Teaching Assistant
On 27th January, ten children from Palm Class took part in activities at the Jubilee Campus. They competed against fifteen other schools, had a fantastic time and won the event for the third year running!
