Welcome to year 2 - MANGO!
Hello and welcome to Mango homepage. I am Miss Butler and I am excited to be the class teacher of Mango Class this year. I will be working alongside Ms Sena and we are looking forward to a new school year in Year 2.
We have been very busy starting our ‘All About Me’ topic which has been a lovely way of finding out about each other and our interests. The children have also had plenty of time to explore their new classroom and the resources within it. We have had time to find out what the children already know and what they want to learn, as well as to build on friendships from the previous year.
This has been an important time of year for the children to help them feel settled into their new classroom .
Our school topic this year is ‘Community’, so please keep checking this page regularly to find out what your child has been learning about!
P.E
Our P.E slots this year are timetabled for Monday afternoon and Friday morning. Please ensure that your child keeps a full P.E kit at school as there may be other times in the week where one is needed. P.E kits will need to be clearly labelled and kept inside a bag.
P.E kit includes:
- T-shirt
- Shorts/ joggers
- Trainers
Mango will also be starting swimming lessons in spring term.
Reading
Please make sure that your child has their reading diary and reading book at school every day, as there will be times within the week when your child is encouraged to do some independent reading in class.
We will change your child’s book twice a week to ensure that children have time to enjoy each book at home. Please read with your child for 20 minutes each evening and encourage them to talk about the book with you. It is really lovely to see when children and parents write in their reading diaries as it lets us know what you are doing at home.
Your child will be involved in weekly guided reading sessions and will also have the opportunity to read with one of us during the week.
We also have a cosy reading corner in our classroom where children can go to enjoy some of the wonderful books we have in our classroom.
We have also created a library area outside our classroom so please encourage your child to take a book home ready for the weekend.
Homework
Homework will be sent home on a Friday afternoon and is due in the following Wednesday. Homework will always be linked to what we have been leaning about in the classroom so its provides a perfect opportunity for children to practise new skills but also to share their learning with you at home. Spellings will also be sent home on a Friday and we will test the children in class the following Friday. Please practice these with your child at home.
If you have any questions, please feel free to come and speak to one of the team.
