Class of 2015 - 2016
Football Tournament
Banyan and Cedar Classes combined to form two teams for a tournament at the University of Nottingham's artificial pitches. They played against many other teams from across the City and County. Both teams ended the tournament by playing each other to top the group of teams who had come third place from the mornings league games.
The video below captures the highlights, especially Mohammad's scorching goal which set Dunkirk B on the path to victory over Dunkirk A.

SATS 2016
Please find below Information for Parents about the 2016 SATS from the Standards and Testing Agency for the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 tests.
Table Tennis Tournament
Twelve students had a great time competing in a table tennis competition at the Sycamore Centre in St Anne's. Fourteen teams played a total of 192 matches! Have a look at the action on the slideshow below.
Pentathlon Roadshow
P.E. students from Fernwood School came to deliver an exciting event. They brought five different sporting activities for Banyan and Cedar Class to take part in. Take a look at the photos below to see how they got on.
Banyan can write instructions. (Not so sure about following them!)
One of our literacy genres is instruction writing. The task was to write the instructions to make a cup of tea. In pairs each team presented their instructions and Mr Brown attempted to follow them to the letter to produce the perfect cuppa. After overflowing kettles and cups, (no instruction as to how much water to add) and burnt fingers, (no spoon cited to take the tea bag out), Mr Brown finally made the cup of tea to beat all.
The winning instructions below were created by Awais and Omar who were rewarded with a well earned cuppa and a Kitkat. Well done.

Still continuing the instructions competition, Omar (again) and Talia won with a very strong set of instructions for making jam on toast. Mr Brown, at his most pedantic, went through a near faultless process of creating the delicious, sweet treat. Good work to both of you.
Rugby Tournament at Nottingham University
Cedar and Banyan class fielded two teams in a hard fought Tag Rugby tournament against 10 other teams from across the city. The standard of play was high and there was a very competitive spirit in the air as the Nottingham University student coaches gave last minute instructions to the school teams they had been coaching for the last ten weeks.
Dunkirk's teams did exceptionally well, playing each other in the final after coming top in separate group stages.
A fantastic result, well done to all of you who participated.

Hold The Front Page!
Banyan Class turned the ICT suite into a busy newspaper office this week. Over the space of three hours they produced the Banyan Times. Teams of reporters were dispatched throughout the school to find the breaking stories and features of the day. They interviewed the people involved and chose the pictures to include. The next step was to wrote up the story using the journalistic techniques they had been learning over the last two weeks. The hardest job was to get their story past past the hard nosed news editor, Mr Brown. Once that was done the story was "put to bed" on the computer ready for printing.
Everyone worked hard to produce a great looking newspaper and had lots of fun doing it.

IMPS (The Injury Minimization Programme for Schools)
We went to the Queens Medical Centre to learn about first aid and keeping ourselves safe. We all had a great morning and learnt how to give CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) if someone is unconscious and not breathing. We also learned how to use a defibrillator machine to start someone's heart.

Tag Rugby
Tag Rugby training is in full swing. We have three University of Nottingham rugby team students coming in each Monday afternoon to pass on their expertise to Banyan Class. We are getting better and better each week.
Science
We have started our science work by experimenting with batteries and bulbs. We had to predict which combinations would allow the bulb to light up. We then tested the predictions to see if we were right.
Hockey
Banyan Class have started the years sporting challenges by training and preparing for an upcoming hockey tournament. The pictures below show the first training sessions.
Aikido
A reminder that Aikido is on offer as an After School Club, please see letter below. A taster session was held for Banyan Class in the hall.
