Welcome to Banyan Class Spring 2012
Thursday, 19th January 2012
Dear Parents/carers
Hello again, and what a busy time we all had last term – PGL, ice skating, IMPS visit, Newstead Abbey trip, Bikeability, Aikido, cinema visits, newspaper tour and of course all the Christmas activities!!
This term will be very much work based around Maths, Science and English in preparation for the SATs tests during the week beginning May 14th. Parents and carers of Y6 children are invited to a SATs information meeting on Thursday 22nd March at 3.30pm so please put this date in your diaries now.
Homework
Homework is usually given out on a Friday and the children are expected to return it, completed, by the following Wednesday. It is also extremely important that all children read regularly at home and talk about what they have read. Please also make sure the reading record is completed.
PE
Your child will need their PE kit at school most days and can leave it in the cloakroom from Monday to Friday. Please note that for safety reasons jewellery should not be worn. If your child is unable to do PE on any day could you please let us know in the morning or send a note with your child.
A few details of the work to be covered this term:
· Literacy – reports, recounts, letters, persuasion, diary, story drama work with Parmjit
· Maths – shape, symmetry, angles, probability, calculator
· Science – Earth and beyond, human body, plants, forces
· RE – Sikhism and Christianity
· PE – tag rugby, football, gymnastics
· MFL Spanish with Miss Gallagher
Snack time
As Dunkirk is a ‘Healthy School’ we would like to just give a gentle reminder that chocolate bars, crisps and sweets are not allowed for the children to have as their morning time snack. Therefore, could the children please bring in either a piece of fruit, a healthy snack bar or buy fruit from our fruit shop at a cost of 20p. There is always water for your child to drink but we also have a space in the classrooms for water bottles so your child can sip during the day and keep hydrated (which helps our children concentrate better!)
Website
We have recently updated our school website and will be continually updating the site with children’s work, photographs and latest news. It is now looking absolutely fabulous and if you haven’t visited it for a while the address is www.dunkirkprimary.com. Take a look!
Dinner Money/Consent Forms/Money for Outings
Please ensure that all money and consent forms are handed to us (class teachers) in a sealed, labelled envelope.
If you have any worries or concerns please let me know. I am available to discuss any issues you may have by appointment after school on most days.
Yours sincerely
S Brown
